While we’re talking dads, this is probably the distillation of my dad’s whole ethos: we gotta make sure not to waste any Post-Its.
A post it note sits on the kitchen door. The red ink used hours ago to proclaim that a thermos had coffee in it has now been joined by “WASPS”, written in black ink. This is of course not a reminder to buy wasps at the grocery store but to instead purchase the implements of their destruction.

Cool little detail, this is the section that broke, it’s plastic-ish material, not the wire itself: they didn’t have heat resistant wiring back then so this is meant to bear the temperature by both having the asbestos mesh jacket and an insulated core in the center with the wire coiled around it.
As described above, a white plastic-appearing core has very thin wire coiled around it. The woven jacket on the outside is not depicted.

Today’s project with dad—great grandmother’s percolator, still makes a mean cup but my dad learned maybe you shouldn’t assume the issue is a plug and jiggle it around until you snap a wire in half.
