Some scenes from cross country skiing in the Clashindarroch forest last Friday. It's difficult to concentrate this week.

Snow has arrived in Aberdeen, but I already enjoyed a short dook into the snow on Carn An T-Sagairt Mor last Saturday.

The valley north of Carn Bhac is likely infrequently visited for a reason.

Yesterday, running (and hiking and chatting) through the Lairig Ghru with two other runners from the @cairngormclub.bsky.social. Everyone else walked, so missed out on coffee & cake at the end.

Visited Tap o' Noth yesterday. Short outing that'd I'd not normally visit unless my coach hadn't set a short long run. Visited the new coffee and bookshop in Dufftown.

I don't know why my Wordpress site doesn't forward images, so here's two of the photos from the post and a couple more. Spent Saturday night at Sandy Loch before climbing the Stuic with Jen on Sunday morning. A short, comfortable night's sleep, but impatience meant dehydration & mild hunger.

Sunday. Yesterday. 30km out and back into the Larig Ghru in 3h40m. Chatted with @countrysideben.bsky.social at the car park. Passed a DoE group heading towards Corrour Bothy. Listened to one Om album for three hours. Ate lots of gels. Birthday cake anyone? A good dress rehearsal for in two weeks.

Two hours of thoughts & no thoughts to get here then two more hours to get back to Balmoral with a few diversions in the forest.

A vaguely disappointing long run yesterday. Four hours in total. Feel slow. While I regret not going to the summit this time, I did manage to be in the forest by the time the hail started.

Leg still hurts. Immensely pissed off with this. Tried running a tempo session and had to bail. Bought music on Bandcamp to feel better. Added @jamesreeves.co's Midnight Radio to my iPhone properly. Skulking off to the library. A vaguely organic post-modern cube that overlooks the sea.

I found these two sequential paragraphs an interesting contrast to consider.

Turned into an afternoon wander to a ruined township then haggis and singing. (I cannot sing.)

Some images from yesterday's @cairngormclub.bsky.social annual winter walk up Lochnagar. Enjoyable. I'm now fifty-fifty on reaching the top during the January trips.

In particular, I really rate Mountaineering: Freedom of the Hills, but also of note is the chapter on clothing and nutrition in the Will Gadd book which is excellent. (Mostly because I struggle with nutrition on long days. I'm a chronic under fueller and drinker.)

After last weekend, J asked me for references about moving on ice and snow, so I annotated a few books. :)

Càrn Mòr, near Braemar this morning. 12km, 1h30m, 394m. Blustery. Hopefully not my last Scottish hill of the year, but maybe.
