Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson was born on this day in 1850. His best-known works include Treasure Island (1883) and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886), both of which introduced themes and tropes that persist in popular culture today.

We join the world in mourning the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall. She visited @unkearney.bsky.social in 2005. Part of her remarks highlight hope: "However grim and bleak the world seems today, it will change. Each one of us can do our bit."

Goodall said that there are four reasons for hope: the human brain that recognized the problems we have on our planet, motivated young people, the indomitable nature of human spirit, and the resilience of nature.

During the early 1990s, Plush Pony was an iconic lesbian bar located in the El Sereno neighborhood of East Los Angeles that catered to working-class Mexican and Chicana women. [🧵1/3]
