We believe that the American worker is society's backbone, and by empowering them, we create the greatest opportunity for a more equitable future.
Pinned
We stand on the ideals of equality, dignity, and unity.
We believe a just society can only be achieved through "equality of opportunity."
We believe all people deserve dignity and may define it however they choose.
We believe the only way to achieve these goals is through unified effort.
It's International Workers' Day!

Today, we honor labor's victories and mourn its losses.

The fight for labor equality continues, and systemic change demands action.

Here's a great editorial by @hamiltonnolan.bsky.social about labor unions, our most potent means of direct action.

If your Democratic congressperson sounds anywhere near this disconnected from reality, PRIMARY THEM.
As a party, we are prisoners being held hostage by people who simply refuse to accept that their time has passed and won’t accept that others more capable right now. Stay in the Senate, but step down from leadership. It’s time for a new approach, a new face, & a new voice.

The message being sent here is clear: "The federal government will protect the elite at all costs." While we do not agree with Mangione's actions, make no mistake that if the victim had been a divisional sales manager at UHC, and that was the only difference, federal prosecutors would not intervene.

Voters across the country cry out for change and fresh voices. The Democratic Party responded by choosing a 74-year-old man, handpicked by an 84-year-old woman, to its most visible House position instead of a more dynamic, younger woman of color. We deserve better.

Gotta say it’s wild that every time Democrats win an election Republicans form an unbreakable bloc on every issue they prioritize but when Republicans win, Democrats go “oh yeah, mass deport, f the queers, defense of democracy what?”

It’s a frustrating feature of American politics.

It's not that complicated.
Create a plan that centers around helping everyone's lives be better.
Tell everyone what that plan is
Deliver on as much of that plan as possible by almost any means necessary.
Show people how the results of the plan have made their lives better.

Inarguably, the best part of the Biden administration has been Lina Khan's work as head of the FTC.
Khan has achieved more on behalf of the American worker in her time as commissioner than every other iteration of the FTC combined.

Here is a great read on the pros and cons of tariffs.
While the UWP is now and always on the side of the US worker and growing jobs domestically, we should also use prudent, validated economic strategies when it comes to foreign trade.
Can tariffs be a good thing?
In a day-after-the-election briefing to a group of business executives on what the trade policy of a second Trump presidency might look like, the question was asked, “What would an example of a good tariff be?” The answer is the same one that the 16th century Swiss physician and alchemist Paracelsus gave about dosages of medicine—given in moderation and for the right purpose, they can help heal. Given in excess, they become a poison.
