Reviews and discussion of all things heavy, fast, loud and counter-culture. Digging into metal and hardcore of interest.
That’s awesome. Repka’s artwork really helps create the vibe for an album. There’s albums from the picture I’ve never heard either. I’ll have to check some of them out.

Such a good album. Sanctuary (the song) is near-perfection. Chef’s kiss.

This album wasn’t mimicry, which is what made it so great. Suspend disbelief for a moment and It transports the listener back to a time where Chuck could have written this album.

The Teutonic trilogy of thrash - Kreator, Sodom and Destruction just continue to shred our collective faces off with each album. It’s awesome to see these guys continuing to be effective at their craft.

I wish I had a time machine to be at that show. That era of Kreator just slaps even all these years later and DRI is an awesome time, anytime.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Scum. But the evolution of Napalm Death from there onward was amazing. They became something so much greater. Agree re: Celtic Frost. Excellent band and catalogue.

And Jesse Pintado and Mitch Harris. They all brought grindcore forward. Barney was the perfect singer for them to complete the equation. I know people who say Scum was the pinnacle, but it just wasn’t. Napalm went on to define a genre and become one of the best, if not the best extreme bands ever.

I have a spouse & daughter with ADHD. Appreciate what ur going through. But don’t lose sight of who you are. Lack of focus can also make for music that’s unique in the best way. I have OCD and played in bands for a long time. It took me forever to embrace that as something that makes me who I am.

Great work! I was thinking, this sounds like some good hardcore. Then you hit me with some sludgy and grindy stuff and I was like, damn! For as few metal/hardcore/grind people as are on this app, I seem to find more awesome bands here than anyplace else. Keep up the sonic beatings.

That was, IMO, an awesome era for Napalm Death. I remember hearing Harmony Corruption and was forever hooked. Mass Appeal Madness EP and Utopia Banished just cemented it for me.

Yep. Testament has done a great job of getting top notch musicians to round out the band. They’re another one, like Death that just landed top talent who were perfect for their vision. They didn’t lose a step on Low or The Gathering with people like James Murphy John Tempesta and Dave Lombardo.

I love Souls of Black. It’s kind of insane that they released that many metal classics in such a short span. The Legacy through The Gathering was 12 years and spanned arguably 7 must-have in your catalogue albums plus Demonic (which was also awesome but kind of an outlier in terms of their style).

I remember when that album came out, I was like, wait, Andy from King Diamond? I heard the first solo he played and was like, yep. Definitely him and it works perfectly. He’s one of my all-time favorite guitarists. His style of playing is unmistakable.

That’s the thing. Chuck was the architect, but had people like Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan, James Murphy, Andy LaRocque, Steve DiGiorgio and Paul Masvidal. His supporting cast was a murderer’s row of the best metal musicians ever - and the whole thing never fell into the trappings of “supergroups”.

That’s gonna be one helluva show. Enjoy!

Such a good band. King Fowley and crew never disappoint.

I feel like some people are kinda sleeping on this album and I don’t get why. It’s one of the best thrash albums in years and is classic-era good. \m/
