Nightly Listen: VoidCeremony | Entropic Reflections Continuum: Dimensional Unravel. Interesting album. Some riffs remind me of Domination-era Morbid Angel; some bass that reminds me of Steve DiGiorgio and some black metal seasoning. It all works. #metalsky 20buckspin.bandcamp.com/album/entrop...

Nightly Listen: Resurrection | Embalmed Existence. This one seems to fall by the wayside in terms of 90’s death metal accolades. It is an absolute classic, though. If you haven’t partaken, you must. It’s technical, tight, full of earworm riffs and just fun. #metalsky

Late Night Listen: Napalm Death | Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism. It’s amazing that five decades into Napalm Death they are releasing vital albums. Hum’s Inlet along with this album were my best of 2020 and it wasn’t close as to the others on my list. #metalsky m.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

End of Night Listen: Drugs of Faith | Decay. Hardcore feels? Yes! Grindy feels? Yes! Worth listening to? Fuck, yes! Killer band from Virginia that you will really like if you’re into punch in the face songs. Short, but sweet. #metalsky #hardcore #nowspinning drugsoffaith.bandcamp.com/album/decay

Waiting to get buried by snow listen: Prong | Zero Days. Always under appreciated, Prong just continues to release quality stuff. This one is more on the thrashy side. Tommy Victor is a veritable riff machine. #metalsky #nowspinning

Nightly Listen: Testament | The New Order. I wrestle with whether this or The Gathering is my favorite. Both are elite albums in terms of songwriting and execution. They may not have been part of the “Big Four”, but Testament was the standard of excellence. #metalsky m.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Late Night Listen: Kreator | Hate Uber Alles. At this point, I firmly believe Mille and Ventor from Kreator are immortal. They are into decade 5 of producing top-notch extreme metal. I’ve seen them live many times and there is no drop-off. #metalsky #musicsky kreator.bandcamp.com/album/hate-b...

Nightly Listen: Pestilence | Consuming Impulse. A death metal classic. Martin van Drunen has quite the resume but, I feel like people mostly know him for Asphyx. If you haven’t heard this one, it’s more than worth the time to check out. #metalsky #musicsky agoniarecords.bandcamp.com/album/consum...

Nightly Listen: Dust Bolt | Mass Confusion. Sticking with bands from Germany, Dust Bolt does some fine new wave of thrash. Title track gives vibes of everything from Slayer to Nuclear Assault to Biohazard without aping those bands. Good album and band. #metalsky dustbolt.bandcamp.com/album/mass-c...

Short Listen: Timeless Rage | Moonbite Serenede. Power metal from Germany. Actually found these guys on this app. If you like Helloween, you’re gonna enjoy this. Vocals remind me a bit of Warrel Dane, of whom I’ve always been a huge fan. #metalsky #musicsky timelessrage.bandcamp.com/track/moonbi...

Later Listen: Mastodon | Crack the Skye. The first four Mastodon albums are contagious. Listen to one and you want the others. This one is a masterpiece. RIP Brent Hinds. May not be another one like this but this one will live on forever. #metalsky #nowspinning m.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Nightly Listen: Bonded by Blood | Exiled to Earth. New wave of thrash metal band, replete with heavy AF riffs, soaring solos and riot vocals. Reminds me of Vio-Lence - and that’s a real good thing. Stands on its own as good thrash. #metalsky #nowspinning bondedbyblood.bandcamp.com/album/exiled...

Work Week is Over Listen: Exodus | Fabulous Disaster. This one might be my favorite from these guys. I mean, come on, it has the quintessential Exodus song - The Toxic Waltz. Intersted to see the next output with Rob Dukes back in the fold. #metalsky #thrash m.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Next Listen: Anthrax | For All Kings. Anthrax continuing the tradition of no bad albums with Joey at the helm. Very much looking forward to new material from these guys in 2026. An aside - met them at a meet & greet in the 90’s - totally stand up dudes. #metalsky m.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Nightly Listen: Ministry | Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs. Sometimes simplest is best. Case in point - this album. Straightforward riffs with variation through layering and samples made for not only an effective, but classic album. #metalsky m.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Short Listen: Weekend Nachos | Watch you Suffer. Really hoping they get back together. They produced way too much hardcore/grindy goodness to just be done forever. #metalsky #hardcore #nowspinning m.youtube.com/watch?v=3Dp6...

Nightly Listen: Baroness | Gold & Grey. The last of Baroness color themed records. I’ve always liked that their instrumentation sounds real. The drums aren’t clicks. The guitar and bass sound full and natural. The songs are pretty damn good also. baroness.bandcamp.com/album/gold-g.... #metalsky

Nightly Listen: Mastodon | Leviathan. I still remember how I felt when this hit, driving in my 97 Ford Ranger listening to it ad infinitum and knowing from the get-go it was something special. It made me want to make music even more. #metalsky #nowspinning relapsealumni.bandcamp.com/album/leviat...

Late Night Listen: Brutal Truth | Sounds of the Animal Kingdom. Lying awake at midnight thinking about work in 7 hours. Some Brutal Truth will help me to relax, right? It’s a shame these guys hung up the cleats. They put out some grade A grindcore. #metalsky brutaltruth.bandcamp.com/album/sounds...

Late Night Listen: Benediction | Killing Music. I wouldn’t say this is Benediction’s best album, but it still shreds your face off for sure. A good band kicks ass through thick and thin. Not everything is going to be Subconscious Terror. #metalsky benedictionofficial.bandcamp.com/album/killin...

Nightly Listen: Converge | The Dusk in Us. I love that Converge can push things right up to the point of sounding like the wheels are coming off the car, and then reel it back in. Saw them a couple yrs back with Meshuggah and Torche. What a show! #metalsky convergecult.bandcamp.com/album/the-du...

Nightly Listen Part II: Dio | Record Store Day EP. Some Killing the Dragon and Rainbow in the Dark to cap off the night. There are way worse ways to end a day - and there will never be another Ronnie James Dio. \m/ #metalsky #nowspinning m.youtube.com/watch?v=CjdN...

Nightly Listen: Bison | You are not the Ocean. You are the Patient. If you like Red Fang and the first four Mastodon albums, you’re prolly gonna like these guys. This one is a bit of a departure from their earlier stuff. A top-notch yet unheralded album. #metalsky bison.bandcamp.com/album/you-ar...
