he remembers me from our slow chase and is extra careful when he’s with his cottontail friend 🥹 I’m scared to totally freak him out again so just giving them treats. He looks remarkably cleaner and I really wonder if someone is keeping him and just letting him out 😒

I also learned bunnies *love* the smell of apple cider vinegar so I dowsed the cage and half our yard in it. It smells like a cidery in here

New day, new tactic. @mbchafin.bsky.social and others recommended using a play enclosure to lure the bun into. Had one on hand from when Coop was a puppy. So here it is, all set up and baited with carrots, Brussels, banana 🤞haven’t seen Albi in two days with this heat and a little worried about them

Ok also I know this is dumb but I almost feel bad about trying to rescue him because I see him playing and hanging out with all his wild bun friends. A few days ago I watched him chase the wild bun around the tree and then let the wild bun chase him 🥹🥹🥹

I now have a ring camera set up to monitor the backyard where we see him most often. Because it’s impossible to contain him, it’s hard to enlist additional help to capture him. I suspect he’s living under the deck of the salon two doors down, but aside from crawling under it it’s hard to be sure.

Anyway. My plans get slightly more Looney Tunes in their creativity. Despite eating out of my hand, Albi doesn’t fall for any of it.

Want to say here I *know* Albi is a domestic bun and I *know* they can’t live outside. But this is a weird area and I could see someone having an outdoor hutch and letting their pet wander the neighborhood even though we live between two busy main streets. So I post in my local town FB group.

Fast forward a couple of weeks into July and it’s getting hotter and I notice one day Albi is covered in bugs. He still seems ok but not *thriving* and it’s getting hotter. I post on r/rabbits to get thoughts on coordinating a rescue. It blows up.

ok Bluesky, it’s finally time to fill you in on my own personal white whale. or in this case, tiny furry ginger whale my husband named “Albi.” Albi has been in our neighborhood since May and we see him every few days. At first, he was pretty small and seemed to thrive outside
