He never read me Tolkien, but told me how much they meant to him. We were a theater family, and my dad thinks he is Tevye from Fiddler lol, so there was a lot of watching and singing of that, even at my wedding.

Idk I feel like it's just cities and their diverse populations in general. Any mention of going to a Midwestern city (Mpls, Chi, Mke, etc) in a rural area is often followed up with some comment about the supposed extreme violence in those places.

Misuse is the correct use. When I was teaching and we did MMM, I selected a student (usually a senior) to always have an airhorn sound effect cued up on their device to mark the end of a battle. It was glorious.

I genuinely thought the cups were made by the tool company as I do think of them as Stanley lol.

I actually wrote a paper on this in college and how the dominant language in WI schools changed around the time of WWI and then fully by WWII due to anti-German sentiment.
My mom's side still used some German, and being from Eastern WI German culture is still stronger.

The magic is becoming real now though. We have farms replacing hand weeding with laser-weeders, it's amazing.

I'm a farmer and I hate these takes. They're so ignorant of how the food supply actually works. Farming is hard, usually requires privilege in land/capital, super unpredictable, and individuals growing a garden is fine but is super inefficient on a societal scale.

Bought two copies, gifted one and read the other. It was illuminating in the deeper explanations of the mindset, and in other ways it was just so comforting as a "religious but not Christian" in the Midwest who has always been surrounded by this and most people don't even see it!
