No wonder my legs are tired, I walked a lot last weekend

There used to be another overlook here but it's long gone now

I saw a centipede crawling around in the mud that day

As the season went on I had to go deeper into the forests because all the trees around the edges had their leaves blown off

I really liked this rock
A rock covered in green moss and lichen. The other side of the rock is almost entirely covered in moss. The other initial point depicting the west line and meridian. The east half says Jackson county and the rest is covered in leaves. The north west corner says Ingham co Leslie twp section 36 town 1 north range 1 west. The south west corner says Jackson co rives twp section 1 town 1 south range 1 west. Looking down the west baseline. There are some trees here but more shorter grassy plants than the other initial point.

I stood on this spot in the cold rain for a while and while I was there a strong wind came and I watched a tree fall

In the center it says state of Michigan 1816, and to the west of the meridian it says Ingham co Leslie twp section 36 town 1 north range 1 west. The north east corner says Ingham co bunkerhill twp section 31 town 1 range 1 east. The south east corner says Jackson co Henrietta twp section 6 town 1 south range 1 east. Looking underneath the wood platform we can see the plaque and bricks and attached to a stone pillar embedded in the ground. Standing on this initial point and looking directly down the east baseline. The ground is wet from rain and covered in fallen leaves.

I like these weird little historical places
A small sign that says "the initial points of the Michigan survey defining our state since 1815 meridian baseline State Park" and it has pictures of two circular plaques that are at survey points in the ground. A sign that says Meridian base line initial point The 1785 land ordinance organized the system of surveying land in regular square six mile units called townships and square one mile subunits called sections. Surveyor general Edward tiffin set the Michigan meridian (north-south line) using the 1807 treaty of Detroit land cessions. On September 19 1815 Benjamin Hough began surveying north from fort defiance ohio. Alexander holmes began surveying the meridian from a point 78 miles west of Detroit. Wet land caused him to turn east then north before starting the base line east. He quit that fall, but Hough completed the meridian and marked the initial point in 1816. Tiffin suspended surveying in 1816 as he believed the land was "poor" unfit for military purposes and not "worth the expense of surveying it." A sign that says Meridian base line dual initial points Michigan territory governor lewis cass directed surveys near Detroit to resume in 1817. The opening of the Erie canal in 1821 increased industry and settlement, contributing to the need for further land surveys. In 1824 Joseph wampler reran the last twelve miles of the meridian north to intersect the base line he had extended West about eighteen miles. For unknown reasons he marked a second initial point 935.88 feet south of the first mark. Since land had already been surveyed and sold using the first point surveyors used both initial points: the northern point for land east of the meridian and the southern point for land westward. The Michigan survey continued through 1856 based on the dual initial points near here where Jackson and Ingham counties meet. A jumble of fallen trees which are damp from the light rain and green with moss and lichen. The ground is covered in leaves.

I can think of a few people I would like to cast out on a canoe in a shit lagoon

What a lovely place to propose

Red yellow orange and green trees on the other side of some water. There are some red dots in the distance on the other side of a lake, which are trees next to the parking lot I was parked at. I went to sleepy hollow because it has a spooky name, and one of these days I'm going to hell

This was the last time I went swimming near the end of October. I only went up to my waist, with some waves going over my shoulders, and I got out pretty quickly too because of the cold.

You can usually find bald eagles here on the grand river, they have a nest nearby you call see once all the leaves fall.
