I was thinking this too. I assume for now they really don't want to have to change characters' sizes, especially not to make them smaller, to be sidekicks - Spongebob sidekick is actually quite a bit bigger than the character canonically is, lol

This definitely is sunk costs because since development restarted before the second trailer BG&E2 is now this extremely ambitious space sim MMO thing. The tech used is probably still pretty impressive and they think it can still make money if they finish it. That's the most important thing to them.

I'm fairly certain this character is inspired by "Gust", Philip Seymour Hoffman's role in Charlie Wilson's War. They look nearly exactly alike, but this inspiration has never been mentioned by Swery and hasn't been speculated anywhere online by anyone other than me, as far as I know.

Doesn't take a marketing genius. Just do SOME marketing and AVOID character focus at all costs. What killed Concord was that they started with that, the characters sucked, and then they only showed gameplay in a game-specific State of Play that nobody watched.
