Adding “compiler-induced psychosis” to my bio, brb.
This LLM hype is nothing new, Rust & Haskell developers have had compiler-induced psychosis for decades now.

I'm only half joking when I say that you can't properly define what object-oriented programming is until you learn a functional programming language. It's kinda funny when people describe what OOP is and it's just things Haskell does better than every single OOP language

also all stats books: BUT I'M GOING TO USE alpha = 0.05...DON'T QUESTION ME.

Use 0.001 you cowards.

Royce Lewis' career 1.708 OPS with the bases loaded is the highest in MLB history (minimum 30 plate appearances).

Royce Lewis technically just went 0-for-1 with the bases loaded, but three runs scored on the play and he wound up at third base.

case in point: the concern we have with reallllllly large n detecting "practically insignificant" effects that are statistically significant. We're annoyed because the "interval null" being tested in this case CLEARLY doesn't align with what we want to test in our mind.

people don't actually want to test point-nulls in NHST, they want to test interval nulls and they rely on the structure of the test to define the "interval null" (*waves hands vaguely*) for them, rather than explicitly defining an interval null and testing it.

I just saw George Sherman's THE TREASURE OF PANCHO VILLA (1955), and am struck by how it seems more like a 1970s movie than a movie of the '50s. Here's a shocking early moment when we're confronted with a series of dead, hanging bodies. Gilbert Roland is great in it.
