Trump is simply repeating a Putin talking point here. Russia has insisted on intervening in basic issues of Ukrainian sovereignty for more than a decade. Now Trump is doing Putin’s PR work, making unsustainable arguments for an unjustifiable invasion.

1 To be clear, the president of the United States literally said that Ukraine shouldn't have started this war. How anyone can support him at this point is extremely depressing. Ukraine did not do anything to start the war. They were invaded by Russia. Ukraine's only "fault" was to be next to Russia.

@timothysnyder.bsky.social has written some amazing content about fighting against tyranny. He's an expert on the history of Europe, specifically on Eastern Europe, and the tactics that Russia uses to achieve their twisted ends. We are in danger now, more than ever, of following that dark path.
