The findings showcase the disproportionate precarity of employment reported by this sample of Greater Lawndale residents, which better informs the development of multilevel and community-oriented interventions to promote healthy work in North Lawndale and Little Village.

Journalists and cameramen captured footage from the massacre and released it during a Senate investigation, disproving many police officers’ testimonies of the events. This drew widespread condemnation of their actions and more support for steelworkers' organizing campaigns.

First responders delayed getting wounded protesters to the hospital. Many were arrested instead.

They were attacked by 300 police officers carrying $50,000 worth of equipment purchased by the plant owners. They threw tear gas canisters, followed and beat protesters using clubs with hatchet handles, and opened fire, wounding a total of 90 people, shooting 40, and killing 10.

The Little Steel Strike called for union recognition, fair hours and wages, and protections against workplace hazards and discrimination. On May 30th in Chicago, steelworkers, families, and allies from different backgrounds gathered for a family picnic and peaceful march.
