From standing stones, menhirs, to the nuragic civilisation with so many surprising facets (sophisticatedly constructed towers, sacred wells, large stone figures, intricate bronze figurines): Sardinia is a great place to discover prehistory.

A post-ESITO treat: found this golden pendant in the shape of a chrysalis in the archeological museum of Cagliari, Sardinia. 7th cent BC. Phoenicians liked to decorate themselves with butterfly pupae! 🧪🦋

We had a great European Symposium for Insect Taste and Olfaction, ESITO, on Sardinia where I was invited to talk about evolutionary aspects. This was how spiders entered an insect meeting 😉.🕷🧪
#SilkeSachse and #MarkusKnaden for organizing it!

How impressive to see the zoomorphic "Löwenmensch" figurine (Lion-man) with my own eyes in Ulm, Germany. A fascinating prehistoric mammuth-ivory sculpture from the Swabian Jura. 40.000 years old, upper paleolithic.

Finally, I sent a cup to Friedrich Merz to fill his cupboard. It is like sending marbles to someone who has lost them. Background: he claimed that I and many others lost their marbles because we protested AGAINST the political shift to the right and FOR democracy. Let us see how he will perform.

Paid a visit to Neustrelitz. Home of the house of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Strelitzia (bird of paradise flower, crane flower) was named by Joseph Banks after Queen Charlotte of M-S. She was an enthusiastic naturalist and played an important role in making Kew Garden into what it is today.
