A sad few days for the NIH, a tragedy for sure. Sad days for science, education, innovation in the US and, truly, globally. Wow
The gutting of NIH is something I never thought I’d witness in my lifetime. What a tragedy. What a senseless loss to the research community, to our ability to understand and treat diseases. What cruelty to deprive people of their livelihoods.

Annika rightfully points out that though this is positive, this is going to SERIOUSLY burden an NIH staff that is actively being further depleted.

Be nice to your SROs, POs, and GMSs, folks...
Yay: Most postponed study sections have been rescheduled at this point.

Yikes: To do this, CSR has scheduled *289* study sections from 03/24-05/16/2025. For comparison, there were only 96 study sections from 3/24-5/17/2024. And NIH still plans to RIF more staff. docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

There is SO MUCH RESEARCH that will simply NOT HAPPEN without these funds. We will be set back DECADES.

And for what? Greed. Hate. Spite.

Eager to hear my Rep, @degette.house.gov , and @bennet.senate.gov, respond to these seismic cuts. This isn't cost cutting or trimming fat, it's destroying the foundation of research and medical infrastructure in this country. Heartened to see @murray.senate.gov's response.
This is what amounts to an ILLEGAL & indiscriminate funding cut for research centers everywhere. It will mean shuttering labs across the country, layoffs in red & blue states, and derailing lifesaving research on everything from cancer to opioid addiction.

We all need to speak out to save lives.
