Southbound from Toolik Field Station yesterday, it started off great with amazing fall foliage. As we drove south the colours remained great but the streams started to get higher and running over the road at times. We made it to Coldfoot and we're stuck there for the night.
Made it home today :)

Great day @toolikfieldstation.bsky.social. Not only is the lake officially ice free but I got to get out via helicopter to a thermokarst lake to the south of Toolik to work on an eddy covariance tower.
Pretty good day all in all.

Powdermill Nature Reserve is hiring a position to work up some datasets, with fairly broad, open ended goals that can be tailored to interests/expertise. Possibility for remote work. Would make a great postdoc or even sabbatical project.

I was curious about how much colder the temperatures this past week were compared to the 30 year average. Turns out it was cold!

Today was much warmer so hopefully the snow will continue to melt and summer will start.

Still skiing on June 8th here at @toolikfieldstation.bsky.social
The willows are starting to produce catkins and the lichens are vibrant.
Temps are expected to be above freezing this next week so we are hoping that more plants will start to flower.

Hot off the R-press! This winter's ice thickness on Toolik Lake. Any bets as to when it'll be ice-free?

Thanks to Amanda Young @ubetula.bsky.social and Toolik's hardy year-round Spatial and Environmental Data Center team.

One word to describe today, windy.

As the morning light began to show the sky turned red. The old adage 'red sky at morning, sailors take warning' applied to us today here at @toolikfieldstation.bsky.social.
Winds sustained at 30 mph today with gusts at least 50 mph.

Moon and sun. That is what the last few days have been about here at Toolik Field Station. We have about a week more of sunshine until the sets for the year and we are taking it in as much as possible, even with temps in the range of -25 to -30.
