This fabulous group of Green Team volunteers came along to St Mary's Heritage Centre on Saturday to prepare the grounds for a transformation into a buzzing, colourful, native wildflower meadow – a haven for wildlife in an urban environment.

Is it an alien? A brain? A jellyfish? No, we think these are wood ear mushrooms, spotted by @s-t-e-w.bsky.social last week in Gateshead Riverside Park.

From Gateshead Riverside Park right by the Tyne all the way up to Gibside @nationaltrust.org.uk in the Derwent Valley, there are lots of ideal spots for tree gazing – especially with autumn colours coming through.

Our brains are wired to feel good when we see the fractal patterns of trees.

Make some time for tree gazing if you can. It will be worth it.
