Showing endless gratitude for the eternal Lyric & Melody.
Yesterday Todd Snider passed away. Tonight I poured myself a drink and pulled East Nashville Skyline off off the shelf. Inside was a hand written note I swear, cross my heart, wasn’t there before. Honest to god. Then I sat in front of my speakers and cranked up the volume for “Play a Train Song.” 💔

For those of you unfamiliar with David Graeber now would be an excellent time to familiarize yourself with his work. You won’t regret it!

This is Lyric. A more wondrous, loving thing never touched the earth. She brought joy and happiness everywhere she went and put a smile on the face of everyone who saw her. Truly the ultimate super power for a true super hero. The world is a lesser place now. The goduverse much, much greater.

It may not seem like it to you but getting beans like these in the mail is a big exciting deal in this household. Lots and lots of good eating in our future!

Sadness in the air this morning with the passing of Terence Stamp. Mid 60s London seems unimaginable without him. Pictured here with Jean Shrimpton his girlfriend at the time.

The beautiful woman in this fabulous photo is Thelma Bynem (aka Linda Martell) an American rhythm and blues/country singer. She released singles, a full length record, and played the Grand Ole Opry a dozen times. After music she took a job helping teach disabled children. A life well played.

Also found a CD with a performance of “A Little Childe” on it that I’ll be picking up. Also, the cemetery where Jane is buried has a wonderful web site with helpful information about her.

The 2nd of the compositions I ordered. Simpler than “A Little Childe There is Ibore” but no less accomplished or beautiful.

The music arrived! Note the 7/8 time signature. It also switches to 2/4 and 5/8 throughout the piece. Tempo changes as well. Since it is labeled a “carol” I was expecting something slightly smaller in scale. Played through it on the piano and it is lovely.

I almost always begin by locating any printed sheet music I can find. Found this pretty quickly before turning my attentions to the business of the day. I’ll update you with what I find. Interesting that this piece is for SSA voices so girls or boys can perform it.

Lyric, my beloved fur elder, can barely stand let alone walk. Yet every day when we go out for her morning constitutional she summons the time and effort to share her treasures in a perfectly straight, equidistant line. If only humans were as fastidious. She is the kindest, sweetest, being.
