There are one or two throw-way lines. In Commando, he mentions growing up in East Germany. And in the Last Stand, he says to the antagonist something like, “you make the rest of us immigrants look bad.”

So much awfulness has come from the Border Patrol. After murdering a fellow teenager, Harlan Carter joined the Border Patrol, rose to chief and led “Operation Wetback”. Later, he took over the NRA in the 1977 Revolt at Cincinnati and transformed it into the psychotic organisation we know today.

I've been out of this space for a while, but ONS data refer to "BB gun/air soft weapon", so it would seem so. In Apr 2024-Mar 2025, these accounted for 1,409 out of 1,907 offences involving a firearm with an imitation weapon. But "imitation" firearms can include toys or even "implied" guns!

When video game violence leads to real world violence, but the video games in question are turn-based RPGs.

Good question (been more than a decade since I worked in this area!). In another post I shared an Economist article that gets into it (paywalled, sorry!), but it seems like it’s third-party gangs. Now, how common it is, I don’t know, but it seems gun renters have been arrested as recently as 2021.
Teenager among 10 suspected ‘rent-a-gun’ gang members arrested
Ten people between 16 and 20 have been arrested for offences including conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to commit GBH with intent across east London, Kent an...

Imitation firearm: 1,907 (!)
Unidentified: 762

The recent rise in "firearm offences" in England and Wales is due entirely to imitation firearms! www.nationalcrimeagency.gov.uk/threats-2025...

I was an MoJ statistician from 2013-15. Guns are practically impossible to acquire for crime. Gangs "rent" guns (linking seemingly unrelated crimes). Bullets are almost impossible purchase. The most common firearm offences were owning an imitation gun, improper storage, or recommissioning antiques.

He’s so nakedly racist.

In his debate with Walz, Vance kept going on about why Haitians in Springfield shouldn’t be there because Vance didn’t like their legal pathway. I couldn’t believe Walz didn’t immediately pounce because Vance had just given it away: it was never about “legal”.

I was 16 years old, playing at night in a house by myself. Nearly called the police to do a welfare check on me.

10/10, would not recommend.

And the remake of part 2 is just as scary. At 41 years old, I made my wife sit next to me while playing.

12/10, definitely would not recommend.

And not just that. They had four years living under his destructive, psychotic fecklessness and still nearly half of voters said, “more of that, please!”

I tell yeah, his superpower - giving the worst people permission to be their worst, bigoted selves again - has been a hell of a drug.

Universal healthcare is so complicated and difficult to implement that only 32 of 33 developed nations have figured it out.

Thankfully I’ve had the same reciprocity in every other country, but my god every March and April renouncing looks more and more appealing.

lol, it’s more like filing 1.1 times, because the headache of filing taxes in other countries I’ve lived in (UK, South Africa, Australia) is only a fraction of what it is in the U.S.

Pretty much the explicit goal of Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform: to make filing and paying taxes so painful that Americans eventually burn the IRS down.
October 29, 2025 at 7:19 PM
And the absolutely maddening Byzantine tax filing forms, pushed by big accountant firm lobbyists and Americans for Tax Reform (who want Americans so angry with taxes that they burn down the IRS). And it’s even worse when you’re American and live overseas.
