So much awfulness has come from the Border Patrol. After murdering a fellow teenager, Harlan Carter joined the Border Patrol, rose to chief and led “Operation Wetback”. Later, he took over the NRA in the 1977 Revolt at Cincinnati and transformed it into the psychotic organisation we know today.

I've been out of this space for a while, but ONS data refer to "BB gun/air soft weapon", so it would seem so. In Apr 2024-Mar 2025, these accounted for 1,409 out of 1,907 offences involving a firearm with an imitation weapon. But "imitation" firearms can include toys or even "implied" guns!

Good question (been more than a decade since I worked in this area!). In another post I shared an Economist article that gets into it (paywalled, sorry!), but it seems like it’s third-party gangs. Now, how common it is, I don’t know, but it seems gun renters have been arrested as recently as 2021.

I was an MoJ statistician from 2013-15. Guns are practically impossible to acquire for crime. Gangs "rent" guns (linking seemingly unrelated crimes). Bullets are almost impossible purchase. The most common firearm offences were owning an imitation gun, improper storage, or recommissioning antiques.

lol, it’s more like filing 1.1 times, because the headache of filing taxes in other countries I’ve lived in (UK, South Africa, Australia) is only a fraction of what it is in the U.S.
