Physics sure is cool. That's why I do it every day. And I have cats. And also a family.

just start saying this plainly to more people

i'm serious.
The constitution quite clearly gives Congress the power of the purse, a power the Executive branch is pretending it now has.

Or did you not pay attention at all in school?

I see a lot of discussion about the halt on federal spending.

Don't forget to read the primary document for yourself. Don't be swept up in political outrage without first assessing if the outrage is warranted. Root your fury in the facts.

Here's the link to the OMB memo.

There is simply no plausible argument that the president has the constitutional authority to refuse to spend appropriated funds because he doesn’t like how the money is being spent.

The legality of policy impoundments is just not a close question.

My son(7yo) got Gravitrax for Christmas. We have been having a blast inventing our own tracks. He wanted a 3-way race which used the flip-flop and the X.

It's nothing special but it's fun watching him build spatial reasoning and a joy to run the marbles down the tracks.

10/10 gift.

Doing laundry in the winter brings the fun game of "Still Damp? or Just Cold?"

I know, if I just got my clothes when the dryer finished then I wouldn't have this problem but who among us is on top of it enough to do that?

This is an astounding statistic.
Ichiro Suzuki saw 39,095 regular season pitches during his MLB career. He only saw 25 of them with his career batting average below .300. 🔥

To mark MLK Day I like to read his most famous speech in its entirety.

Watching it is great but reading the transcript lets me sit with the words and ideas. It's challenging and aspiring.

Seriously, give it a read, the whole thing.
Read Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Have a Dream' speech in its entirety
Americans across the U.S. are celebrating King's legacy this weekend. One way to reflect on his life and message is by revisiting his celebrated 1963 speech delivered at the Lincoln Memorial.

I remember expressing this worry to my husband when preparing for one of my first lectures and he said something like "you're a professor now, you should be able to talk about anything for any amount of time" and now I think of that as the true definition of "professing"
Literally every term I panic that I’m going to run out of material and have to let my class out after 15 minutes and literally every term I re-demonstrate that I can run out of time in a 3 hour class with 15 slides

I can't agree with this more.

The blog is a brief yet solid read.
A recent TeacherTappUS question prompted a 'debate' about teachers putting smartphones in lockers... wish I'd had this excellent blog to hand... but here it is.

We should model it because it can be really difficult to model.
