Enjoyed the presence of an unusually cooperative Henslow's Sparrow on a short hike at Rattlesnake Bluff yesterday. Often heard but seldom actually seen.

Dickcissel that posed nicely for us on our mid-day Afton SP dog walk.

Never pass up a cooperative butterfly! This is a Mustard White, photographed in Northern Michigan.

Squeaky Duck! (aka: Wood Duck)

This is one of those calls you always HOPE to hear during migration but almost never do. This is a Connecticut Warbler (mixed in with a Tennessee Warbler) singing this morning in the Dodge Nature Center (Dakota County, MN).

Only saw glimpses of the bird, which loves deep cover.

Few more bird photos from the last couple days: Common Yellowthroat, Olive-Sided Flycatcher, Yellow Warber, Eastern Kingbird

Finally got outside unencumbered by huskies and skulked around in the shrubbery with the R7 yesterday morning. The migratory loading bar is still only at 25 percent, but I managed to get a few nice shots.

The Wilson's Warbler was a PITA as usual. Sit still, dammit!

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!

Mountain Hare

Cleaning his paws and nose. From today's workshop, spent on the hills of the Scottish Highlands, in fine company.

This Northern Flying Squirrel was so busy chowing down that it let me creep right up to it. (This lens is a 56mm equivalent.)

It even allowed me to touch it's tail.

I tried actually petting it, but that was a "Nope, I'm out!"

Never had this good of a look at a Black-Backed Woodpecker before today. He was working the cedar and balsam trees just outside of our cabin in the Boundary Waters, MN this afternoon.

It's Weird Duck Time again!
I made this comic a few years ago, and I was unsure if anyone else felt like winter was best characterized as the time of the weird ducks. The term has caught on and I've heard people using it without knowing where it's from, which is the highest possible honor.

I need to start posting here more often, but life has been a lot lately...

Here is a lovely California Gull I got a cellphone picture of during a recent business convention at the San Francisco Piers.

It's hard to get good photos of these little buggers.

I took this photo to comment on the fact that all the bird nests around our house are partly made of Siberian Husky fur.

On closer inspection of the photo though, the white material is polyester fiberfill. Now I wonder whose patio furniture got scavenged for this American Robin's (I think) nest.

Hey there, Mx. Blue(sky) / I'm so pleased to be with you

I've been off the birding socials since Xitter went all Nazi-Incel-Poopypants, but going to start trying to get back into the game here.

I'm an old Minnesota dog who loves birding, bird photography, and audio recording.
