Democrats may not have all the answers, but at least we believe in good governance!

I'll never stop writing about politics, but it can be depressing, so I'm branching out into Hallmark movie reviews, as in #HallmarkHaven (click on "Latest!")
@maddow.bsky.social: I don't know if this video has won any awards, but it should have! It's pretty rare to recycle an ad from a year ago and still be effective, but this one captures the transformative joy of friendship. These 3 women have known each other since they were kids! Good job, Amazon!

@maddow.bsky.social: On a lighter note, this is one of the disadvantages of preferring unsliced bread! My kitchen isn't very well lit at night, so I slice bread by feel. I just wasn't feelin' it tonight! Fortunately, I have a rather large mouth, so that gigantic slice at the back wasn't a problem.

@maddow.bsky.social: Our corrupt POTUS and equally corrupt Attorney General are scheming together to blame Democrats as potential co-conspirators in the Epstein scandal. With Trump's approval ratings in the low 30s, we will see if he continues to have the ability to deflect attention from himself!
November 15, 2025 at 7:50 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: In spite of endless efforts to correct his errors in thinking, Trump believes that foreign countries pay for his tariffs, which are in fact taxes on the American consumer! He has a similar faulty approach when it comes to Venezuela and drug trafficking. So we start a stupid war?
November 12, 2025 at 6:30 PM
@maddow.msnbc.com: Lawrence O'Donnell made a couple of good points during this extended discussion. First, the Senate is completely unlike the unified House of Representatives under a Speaker like Pelosi. Senators have more personal agency! And the final battle in this war will be the 2026 midterms.

The Democrats have always been at a serious disadvantage in such circumstances, because we believe in the value of good government. Trump and the GOP would have been just as happy to NEVER reopen D.C., thus fulfilling Reagan's so-called truism of the only good government being no government at all!

@maddow.msnbc.com: The latest poll has Mallory McMorrow within 4 points of the lead in a multi-person Dem primary, WITH 37% UNDECIDED! I like @mallorymcmorrow.bsky.social because she's from Michigan and her logo looks like the side emblem on the front fender of a classic car! Cruisin' to victory!

I've recently lost faith in the Google Machine (or GM), which I spell that way to evoke a sense of dehumanization, because Gmail has randomly lost a couple of messages that I had composed and wished to save! But the GM got it right in its spelling of the word "bated," which I had some doubts about.

@maddow.msnbc.com: Trump likes to brag about how many wars he's ended - I believe it's somewhere around 7 or 8 as of a few days ago - but here's a report from CBS News that he's probably not aware of. You go, Mr. President! Do your thing! We will all be waiting with bated breath, so go, don't delay!
November 10, 2025 at 3:54 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: I won't describe the orange object at the beginning of this Bill Maher "New Rules" clip (which I'm sure is on YouTube), and it continues beyond the sub-3 minute limit for Bluesky, but he absolutely crucifies (not the precisely correct word, though they are believers) our Supremes!

It turns out the bigger diameter base of the new rubber tip grips things like old carpeting better, and the manufacturer had the foresight to design the interior of the tip with a steel washer to give the end of the ebony stick a firm platform, as it were. Plus, for eight bucks, I got a spare tip!
November 6, 2025 at 2:36 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: I needed a hip replacement 8 or 9 months ago, and I still use a lovely silver-handled (actually, pewter, I believe) ebony cane, which I previously sported as an unnecessary accessory! It had a sleek rubber tip which I wore a hole through, and the replacement is clunky. Oh well...
November 6, 2025 at 2:23 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: Whether or not Governor Gavin Newsom is elected president in 2028, he has established himself as a major source of resistance to Trump and the GOP! Trump's demolition of the East Wing of the White House will not be his last destructive act, but the future is looking brighter!
November 5, 2025 at 3:38 PM
@maddow.msnbc.com: Who doesn't love a politician with a highly developed sense of humor? New Jersey Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill gives a great acceptance speech with a promise to improve New Jersey's civics education, after the crowd fails to remember the state motto, "Liberty and Prosperity!"
November 5, 2025 at 8:33 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: In keeping with my decision to show off the new ads featuring @MSNOW, here is one with the comedy stylings of Chris Hayes! I don't know if this means that @MSNBC is being spun off from NBC, but according to Chris, there will be no change. They all get my vote! Good job!
November 5, 2025 at 4:21 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: I usually fast forward through commercials when watching my DVR, but this ad from @MSNBC, which is soon to be known as the somewhat difficult to pronounce Ms now - at least the Google Machine doesn't refer to it as Miss now - is actually pretty cool! Congrats to all at @MSNOW(?)

The sad irony is that the majority of food stamp and ObamaCare recipients live in poor rural counties that voted for Trump, against their own self-interest! Without passing judgment, my guess is that many of these folks are unaware of that connection, because they watch Fox News or no news at all.
November 2, 2025 at 1:31 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: It appears a district judge has ruled that the Trump administration cannot interrupt SNAP benefits when there is a pool of emergency funds that are available for use even with the government shut down. That this was a choice to withhold food by those around Trump is disturbing!
November 2, 2025 at 12:37 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: Democrats used to fear Ronald Reagan because he was so damn popular! He won his second election with 49 out of 50 states, as I recall. Nowadays, with the orange creature in the torn-down White House and the GOP under his thumb, the fear of Reagan seems almost quaint by comparison!

This is the original accidental motion-camera image, which my phone's camera took because if I pick it up the wrong way, it takes a picture! I adjusted the contrast, saturation, and exposure level to create this monstrous effect. I do like the OnePlus cameras, which is how I ended up with 2 of them!
October 30, 2025 at 7:16 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: Here's another accidental motion-camera study. It reminds me of some blood drenched creature, with its mouth wide open, about to consume some blue blob of whatever the thing eats! The camera, unfortunately, cut off the top of its head or it would have been even scarier!
October 30, 2025 at 7:08 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: Leave it up Lawrence O'Donnell, Chief of Staff to the Senate Finance Committee and Senior Advisor to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, to have an opinion about the current leader of the Senate, who refused to allow a vote on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP.
October 30, 2025 at 6:00 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: What I love about this motion-camera study is the distorted "slice" of light in the upper left hand corner of the frame! If you look closely at the lower edge of this apparently weightless structure, it seems to curl upward like a toboggan. Sled onward, children! Winter's coming.
October 29, 2025 at 6:29 PM
@maddow.msnbc.com: Anyone who has lived without full medical insurance knows how limited EMTALA is! It requires that doctors stabilize a patient in the emergency room, but that's it, no follow-up treatment, no ongoing care. It's the humane thing to do, and Trump is an idiot for not knowing about it!
October 27, 2025 at 7:22 AM
@maddow.msnbc.com: My local supermarket seems to have stopped carrying generic bottles of 1/2 or 1 oz eye drops, except those that keep your eyes from getting red, which mine never do, so I avoid the extra chemicals! I was forced to buy a bottle of 0.27 oz drops meant to rewet contact lenses.
