That position has a lot of assumptions baked into it that I don't buy into, the key one being that progress is linear. I think AI is transformative technology, but I've yet to be convinced that it's certain doom.

Even in this book they hedge like crazy, and Yudkowsky is the OG doomer.

That's especially true in the 'big ideas' department.

The book is both better and worse than I expected. There are some interesting ideas in it so far, but the writing is _terrible_. Each chapter is like a 500 word blog post streeeeeeeeetched out. Not surprising, but no fun to read.
