Why do I love video essays about video games and movies that are not practical reviews that are often very personal but hate the stories about people's grandmas and childhood afternoons that get in the way of the recipes I'm trying to get to.

Hong Kongers continue to pay tribute to victims of Tai Po fire despite the memorial being cleared on Sunday night. The benches where the Lennon Wall used to be have been sealed off with tape and police present have told mourners to not leave any offerings or flowers in the area.

HK government’s approach to Tai Po fire reminds me a bit of what happened early on during the pandemic when the community stepped up first because the regime was MIA
It wasn't all just images spread online. Lennon walls, which have been focal points within communities for protest art and articles became places to broadcast public health PSAs:

"Wear a mask!!!"
"Always, always, always, always, always wash hands!!!"

It's harder and harder to run a crowdfunding project as an independent creator.

The number of new pledges has slowed to a halt for the past few days. 🥲

Please help share the project! 🙏

The Redux edition is now crowdfunding on Kickstarter!

Finally watched Scherzo of Deep Night and it remined me of everything I love about SAO. The fantasy of "what if MMO but literal lives are at stakes (and most everyone is competent)" I'd argue SAO was the first one that did it well, and the Progressive movies still did it better than everything else.

I keep thinking about Iron-blooded Orphans' ending (spoiler warning apparently) — how Tekkadan's gundams all perished but what they fought for did kind of later get realised, in the form of the authoritarian power getting not destroyed but restructured, and colonies not liberated but relinquished.

More heros from the Tai Po fire. Catabay carried her employers child from the 23rd floor down the fire escape and didn't stop til she was safe. Verador carried her employer's 2 yr old child in one hand and supported the grandmother in another through the smoke to safety.

So, they, as in the govt.:

1. Arrested the uni student who petitioned for independent investigation to the fire, accountability, re-eavaluation of safety guidelines, & continue support for the residents

2. Are still expecting the victims to pay off their mortgage...
