Today my colleague Ali Kazimi accept the 2025 Fire Horse Award! In his remarks, Ali directly addressed Mayor Olivia Chow & Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik to criticize the anti-protest bylaw that will suppress protests, incl protests for Palestine. Thank you, Ali, for always speaking truth to power!

Beyond the clear racist dog-whistling of these statements, what worries me is how Canadian & Australian PMs (both ostensibly left leaders) might follow KS's lead. We always compare & copy elements of each other's immigration policies...

The Indigenous Studies program at York was founded with much fanfare & was used to show commitment to indigenizing the academy and to decolonization. Now they're suspending admission, showing all of this so-called support is performative. Here's a statement fr the program. #academicsky

Canadian smugness abt Trump needs to stop. There's growing momentum in support of (far) right politicians here. I am worried our so-called Liberal and progressive leaders believe that the solution is to court conservative votes using racist dog whistles. See Ruby Dhalla, candidate for LPC leader ⬇️
