I build websites for a living and do a lot of other stuff for fun, including building websites.
And for the final fun peek behind the curtain: TikTok does this but for their merchants. I regularly get 10-15 emails from them a day nagging me about how to use their platform to sell more like… we’re already bought in what more do you want?

And because they’re defaults, Joe Shirtseller never turns them down and anyone savvy enough to want to turn something mundane into a subscription is delighted and wants even more aggression.

My job building involves sites that use stripe or Shopify to turn microstores around quickly and every time it’s like pulling teeth dialing back all the aggressive defaults on every platform that want to extract and track as much data as possible at all times.

I think the last 5-10 year surge of enshittification of e-commerce specifically is basically Shopify’s galaxy brain lead generation techniques of aggressive, unsolicited emailing, with everyone else adopting those tactics. It _sucks_.

Real, REAL good thank you!

I have the Genki Mini and Covert mostly for travel and both are great. I have used them at home though and def had a magic feeling moment when I booted up emulated Asura’s Wrath and piped it into my tv w/ an Xbox controller. But I also just use my work laptop dock too. 🤷

If you need more, like a bunch of usb ports or fast charging, then the official one is… fine? Kinda clunky. I’d just get a decent laptop dock or reasonably priced name brand-ish dongle depending on if you need a lot of IO or portability or whatever.

Kinda depends on what you need out of it. Any usbc to charging/hdmi doodad will do it. If just video out and charging are priorities, we love the Genki dock wall warts we have because they are small, good for travel, and work for any other conforming device (ie Switch, computers, etc).

Follow the money (because they employ me).

Outstanding! Smooth as silk and twice as goofy. Also reminds me of the samba parts of the Katamari soundtrack. 10/10, thank you!

The feud definitely gives a remarkably unambiguous lesson on the difference between someone who just makes a product vs. an artist.

This is arguably the premise of Paw Patrol and you know what, who wouldn’t want to live in a society that is pretty much dog-mediated Canada.

Gangs of New York? Can’t recall setting.

So it kind of felt like a kind of Michael Heneke-ish kick in the groin when they didn’t deliver on the advertised thing. Listen I know I’m the insufferable dork in this situation but I want my inconsequential attention grabbing baubles paid off, gtfo with this emotionally satisfying resolution bs.

Ab Aeterno is kind of the litmus test imo. They so elegantly explained some inconsequential puzzle box bullshit that I was interested in right at the end, leading dweebs in my camp to think no, they have some galaxy brained, but compellingly dramatic explanation for _everything_.
