What if we took that seriously?

I started this essay a few weeks ago, and somehow, it’s turned into the outline for a book.

Nothing brings me more peace than the teachings of Jesus—yet nothing infuriates me more than watching those same teachings twisted into fuel for fascism.

I’m sitting in Golden Nugget, a neighborhood diner that’s usually bustling no matter the hour. But at 8 AM on a Thursday, my son and I are the only ones here.

Is it the ICE? Economic uncertainty? The news is unsettling, but an empty diner at rush hour, on a busy Chicago intersection is terrifying.

I just finished @ellereeve.bsky.social ‘s new book ‘black pill’ and I have to say I’m mostly filled with empathy. As a neurodivergent kid from rural VA it would have been so easy for me to get sucked in. Thank god for skateboarding, punk rock, and Noam Chomsky.

This is going to be my only social network (besides LinkedIn I guess for now?) in a few days. Feels kind of crazy to abandon a platform my life has been tied to for almost 20 years in some form or another. But 2025 is the year I start to walk the walk.

Also this.
Gun laws in Wisconsin:

No firearm registration.
No owner license required.
No state permit required to purchase rifles.
No permit required for open carry.
No assault weapon law.
No local autonomy over state law.
No background checks required for private sales.

My 3-year-old is napping safely just 25 feet away, and I’m quietly sobbing, thinking about the child who got ready for school this morning only to be gunned down by a classmate 140 miles from us.

How does this keep happening? Yes, guns—but what else is broken in us?

Spending at least part of your 20's as a dirtbag is highly suggested!
20 years ago I knew a guy who worked part time, minimum wage, as a dishwasher.

He was able to afford rent and a car (both shitty but functional), concerts, weed, etc.

It's interesting to think of how that kind of dirtbag lifestyle is mostly just gone.

Congratulations everyone willing to sacrifice American excellence, pride and freedom (just to start) for better egg prices that you were never going to get in the first place.

I’ll remember your ignorance and apathy with every family ripped apart.

Dear Bluesky,

Thanks for being so welcoming to so many wonderful new arrivals……and for NOT being welcoming to the bigoted pricks.

It’s wild how much your job can shape your values. When I worked in a role involving manipulation, I had to rationalize my actions daily. Over time, it pulled me into a more self-centered, materialistic mindset.
