My understanding is that the model is altogether unconcerned with wrongness or rightness. To your point, we bring those perceptions to it.

I agree, when preferences are pushed onto others, it may be coming from that aversion to uncertainty, and therefore the belief that anything valid cannot have multiple solutions. Heterogeneity is scary!

I wonder if it stems from a desire to feel anchored and have direction (when hitching one's horse to a way of writing, for example). Or thinking "well if research/pedagogy is important to me, then I must have a firm opinion to champion!" As if ambivalence is indicative of disinterest in one's field

but self-injury interventions could potentially target both interpersonal dysfunction and maladaptive coping/distress tolerance to reduce SI. I guess I worry that we researchers downplay the importance of (interpersonal) antecedents when we focus on (intrapersonal) functions. (2/2)
