One person talked about how - more than the likely loss of her job- what grieved her was how impossible it will be to restore the sense that public service matters even after Trump moves on. Another told me that Republicans confirmed Russ Vought, who promised to put these employees “in trauma”

Or... have some humanity and do something to mitigate the harm inflicted on them, as if we were decent fucking human beings rather than monsters having harmed them then also exploiting them for personal political motivations?

Just spitballing. Things are gonna suck, we should be good people anyway

Disdain, damnit

Can't buy or fake or bully a certain kind of power, you just have it or you don't. Probably what irritates them fundamentally. That and their distain for competence.

Last sentence good, first is not the sentence of a fighter.

The IG response was better - "lol no, see you in court"

Consistency is important, and sounding resigned to fate then claiming you will fight in the same paragraph is kinda weird.

Why would she put this out if fighting? It feels like there's a lot of acceptance going on. And few lights like the IG saying "lol no, that's not legal"

I think he's misreading the association.

Trump has removed the veil. Rules don't matter if you don't follow them, and the executive enforces the rules, so if they choose to violate and not enforce rules... What mechanism is going to hold them accountable?

The immunity ruling was demonstrative.

What's the mechanism? Has one already failed, in that departments are following illegal orders before saying, hey maybe let's run this one by the lawyers?

Seems like everything runs on norms, rather than legislation, and it's going just great.

I don't love the part where democrats play possum tho.

People with cancer are having their treatment halted due to the NIH EO. We all are not going to make it, and that's intentional.

Continuing a career of success dehumanizing non-white children, he next aims to achieve peace in the middle east. Which he describes with words like "glass" and "white settlers" and talk of "affordable housing".

This is inarguably true, as it confirms all my priors.

What we don't want to do is mix the two together in some kind of weird bastardization. Not helpful.

Perhaps they think it's snarky and feisty, gives them a hit of dopamine.

I don't like it. Not impressed. Don't see how it serves the goals, and it muddies what the values are.

If someone is doing something that sucks, say it sucks. If you have better ideas, present your ideas.

Amazing lack of self awareness... The country just voted for fascism because the press failed american values.

That guy hasn't done the math

By the way, this is actual news: this is Trump's "DEI" czar admitting that his actual project is to undo the 1960s civil rights laws.

Why do they always put us in the position to try to sus out if it's painfully naive, willful ignorance, just dumb or actual malice?
January 21, 2025 at 7:31 PM
That's what it would take for me to support Trump, except it has to be the sun.

Fire musk into the sun, and you might win my vote, in whatever imaginary future exists where we vote and it matters.
