Grateful to the people who took the time today to remind me that I had somehow previously neglected to block them.

A recently laid-off Big Tech engineering leader posted a video 7 days ago on a new YouTube account and he's gotten 20.5K subscribers. He shares honest reflections that are resonating with people.

I'm guessing most of us here on Mastodon already know the things others are discovering: that […]

I've been thinking about the sentiment sometimes described as "I want to quit tech and become a goat herder."

Setting aside burnout, I think there's also a growing disappointment that technology does not magically solve problems.

The way I see it, there were a few eras in this process of […]

Does anyone know about growing loofah (luffa)? Wikipedia says that it's a sub-tropical plant, but I'm wondering if it will grow where I am in zone 8b.

I'd love to grow these and make loofah sponges for our own use and to give as gifts. We grow squash really well here in the summer, and I'm […]

One silver lining of all the rain in the #pnw is that it is prime time to dig up blackberry vines. The soil is incredibly saturated and loose, it should be much easier to get entire rootball out.

Salmon back at it even after the ginormous flood subsided here near the Raging River (off the Snoqualmie River). The river and stream were crazy balls. Like super insane—I saw multiple large trees on their sides in the river today. These fish are world-class […]

I like rain. A lot.

But I'm very relieved that it's stopped raining, or at least gotten back to normal pitter-patter rain. We probably received 6-8" over the last couple of days. Now we just have to wait for the waters to recede.

We could hear the boulders rolling in the water! This is the Raging River near Preston, WA. #wawx

New profile on the CEO of BlueSky. TIL that she lives here in Seattle. Personally, I'm worried about their VC funding but wish them success developing decentralized social media. I think we've already got that here on the Fedi but I don't care whether it's a white or black cat that catches the […]

If I get a chance, I'll check out Snoqualmie Falls this week. I expect massive amounts of water flowing over the falls as we're expecting 5+" of rain over the next few days. Exciting!

Eye-opening article that explains the lengths to which the Chinese government will go in order to suppress speech that it doesn't like abroad. I remember enjoying movies from Zhang Yimou in the 1990s before he sold out. It's sad to think of the creative expression the world loses out on because […]
