Decided to start getting back into reference drawing, basically just deep diving into different subjects to expand design vocabulary. This week's subject is "work clothing."

This is spectacular(ly dumb) bullshittery. When it became clear that Trump's team mistook the ChatGPT output of trade deficit divided by imports, the Trump admin released this long-winded explanation: ustr.gov/issue-areas/...

This plugin has a lot of moving parts, so give yourself some time to go through and config it how you like it. But I especially like the "scratch" feature and the lazygit integration (more on that one later):

I increasingly believe, and hope, that the open source mentality contains within it part of an ethical and sustainable alternative to capitalism, and Neovim is a shining example of that might work in practice. I love it so far, and will continue to post more about my experience in the coming weeks.

even on a per-project basis. I now have project-specific methods that create formatted working branches, start and stop environments, do cleanup, and so on -- I'm even working on some that can slice up PSDs into individual named frame sprites for easy processing.
January 3, 2025 at 4:37 PM
But more than that, Neovim itself feels like part of a movement of reclamation of agency. It's fully open source, with addons from all over the coding world. Want a new function or feature? Because of the simple but powerful text interface, it's very easy to just write one yourself --

Using Vim feels like acquiring a new set of arcane powers over text. Being able to just type "c i {", and instantly being able to replace the entire contents of the curly brackets I'm currently in, or rearrange whole blocks of code with a few keypresses, to navigate quickly without the mouse ...

First things first: don't make this jump if you don't have a solid few days to put into the learning process! Neovim / Vim is an incredibly powerful tool with a steep learning curve (will post some resources soon). However, a 2 weeks in at this point, I'm shocked by how rewarding it has been.
January 3, 2025 at 4:37 PM
I have been in the process for the last couple of weeks of switching my dev environment to Neovim, from Visual Studio Code (also been a big user of IntelliJ IDEs in the past). For reference, my work is mostly React / Express, my tooling is mostly in Python / Lua, and my game dev is in Godot.

Guessing this is out of all the games played, what kind of games those were. Threw me a bit though because about half of my total playtime has been in Hunt: Showdown!

Kinda love this thing (the Playdate) so far. Super fun, portable, surprisingly deep albeit still small library of games. Tempted to make something for it myself. Already well over 50k units sold so potentially a legitimate platform to do gamedev for.

According to Pew, Black and other non-white people are actually *overall* more supportive of trans rights than white people are, but not *within the Democratic party*, because socially conservative Black people are much more likely to still be Democrat.
