General strikes historically do not work in US. For a strike to be effective you need to ensure folks who strike have enough funds/food/supplies to stay on strike as long as needed and you need to be able to call it off when demands are met. Tall order in a large country. A single day strike? Sure.

With rents often as high or higher than mortgage, one bug barrier is competing with all cash offers or with people who can leverage equity in their current home to facilitate a down payment. I can afford the mortgage, but it’s really hard to save for a down payment when rent is 50% of income.
