I januar 2025 vedtok Verkhovna Rada å anerkjenne det Tsjerkessiske folkemordet eller "Tsitsekun". Mellom 95% og 97% av befolkning ble drept eller tvunget til å forlate Tsjerkessia. Ukraina anerkjenner tsjerkessernes rett til å vende hjem igjen og deres rett til selvbestemmelse i hjemlandet
