The problem is that the Measure G bond is restricted to a very specific project list that explicitly calls out a multi story parking garage with tennis courts on top.

Never mind that they've relocated the tennis courts to Moellering Field, and the proposed structure is classroom space instead.

It'd be great if they could prioritize getting Valley Link on the ground before building out more roadway capacity -- the area's set to be developed, but nominally centered around the future Isabel Ave station.

they're planning for the last 1.5mi of a new wide road (since 580 doesn't have enough lanes, I guess?) between Dublin and Livermore. It's probably going to be the best on-street bike infrastructure in the Tri Valley, with protected corners - unfortunately, for crossing a 120ft wide road:

Some... surprisingly nice bike infrastructure on projects coming out of Alameda County right now. They recently downsized what was to basically be a freeway-ization of Mission Blvd in Fremont down to bike/ped safety and ramp rebuilds:

jealous of your trains, also proof or it didn't happen?

I regret to inform you The Cube is ✨articulated✨.

Honestly though, the Berkeley cube is a pretty good example of how to build a giant unarticulated building that still looks quite nice.

As part of building the tool I reached out to MTC about that, and they confirmed that you get the $2.85 discount no matter how much your previous fare cost.
November 6, 2025 at 4:54 AM
How much cheaper is that trip? What used to potentially cost $13.75 each way is now down to $8.05:

Clipper 2.0 is going to revolutionize how we get around the Bay. Something as simple as taking the bus to the train will be rewarded, not punished.

From my house in Berkeley to my friends in the Castro could be literally half the price as today.

Check it out: clipper2.hikingbytransit.com

Working on something that I think folks will have a fun time playing with 👀

a park shuttle via southside and the UC Botanical Gardens is realistic, feasible, can take advantage of Bear Transit vehicles that have good turning radii and are unused on weekends, and has the potential for funding from multiple sources ;)

But far and away the most exciting part is the new free transfer scheme: an East Bay hiker traveling to Marin can save 40% off their fare compared to today!

In the end, Midpen Open Space District staff estimated that they'd need to find $342,000 per year in microtransit subsidies.

How does that compare to just ...running a bus?
October 10, 2025 at 2:58 AM
in 2024, Midpen staff looked into providing better weekend service hours, as Hopper is only available until 5pm Saturdays, and provides no Sunday service, and they'd need to pay for the full increase for the entire service area themselves.

Years ago, Midpen Open Space studied providing better access to Rancho San Antonio, its most popular park. Since then, the cities of Cupertino and Santa Clara have expanded the Silicon Valley Hopper microtransit such that it provides access not only to Rancho San Antonio, but nearby Fremont Older!

much more sober, fewer experiments with color. no more are the colorful Euronews cube -- compare these two photos of structures finished by the mid-teens, versus two from the early 20s. Very different styles but yet all have fantastic balconies and respond to the same needs of residents/workers:

The section that's really stuck with me over the years was the discussion of the design of place Camille Georges, surrounded by mixed-use office/residential for all-day all-week use, designed to provide a lot of wide open space that nevertheless feels human-scale with sufficient privacy.

Yesterday I went to an East Bay Regional Parks board study session to encourage them to take a proactive leadership role in getting transit into their parks.

The nearest bus stop is over 1.5mi – the best way to get there was a 7mi bike ride from the nearest BART station.

Access includes meetings!

Thank you especially to @rideact.bsky.social and park district board member Lynda Deschambault for tabling with us! Your passion for the outdoors and for equitable access is what made this event possible :)

Thank you to everyone who made it out to the redwoods with me this morning! It was great getting to meet so many other people excited about getting outdoors car free!

It's time! Come by Redwood Regional Park (at the Chabot Science Center bus stop) any time til 1pm to chat with me and folks from AC Transit and the East Bay Parks.

Then, at 1pm, join for a transit oriented hike!
