Devops witch / kusoge fan. Staff for multiple "bad" game appreciation events. Does weird stuff with WebRTC and RTMP. Might tech your marathon. RPG streamer and sometimes speedrunner
Stuck in an impasse with my 20 year old action RPG because I was in the middle of planning a build and the fan wiki and documentation is all on a site behind CF's validation.

I'm flummoxed at this, frankly.

It's a standard moderator tactic when you've Made Your Decision and just want the peace back. Shut up the dissent but reassert you were right while they can't argue.

If you argue, you're rocking the boat.

It's a sign of severe rot yes.
November 16, 2025 at 6:37 AM
I said it last rant but I'll say it again: I focus so much on "This makes no sense for anyone" because it DOESN'T. The easy solution was the conscious one, and IFPA did extra work to make this awful situation where no one is happy AND they're bigots.

Just say you screwed up.
November 16, 2025 at 4:44 AM
and this is before you get into the many folks I know who are majorly hurt by this, mistrustful of IFPA, and some may be quitting pinball entirely over it.

They're not my stories to tell but I'm sure AF gonna boost them if they tell them in public.

Meanwhile, this makes no sense even on a TO level
November 16, 2025 at 4:37 AM
The thing that keeps spinning around in my brain, as a perpetually TO-brained thing: the event results were tainted by this and they don't seem to care because "consistency"

Talk about missing the point of being tournament/ladder leadership.
November 16, 2025 at 4:32 AM
Gods below just saying "We made the bad call in the moment and now we have to fix it" would have been so much easier than "Once we made a call we cannot change it or we're inconsistent and here's a bunch of proof we meant well"

It's not about PUNISHING people, it's about fixing the fuckup.

I learned Lucene/Solr years ago.

Boy I lost that gamble didn't I?
November 15, 2025 at 6:15 AM
tl;dr: The IFPA did extra work and "took the hard road" to provide cover for a transphobic venue and a TD who failed to respond properly.

Policy is clear that the event should be invalidated once people were barred from participating unjustly.

What they're doing this Extra Work for speaks volumes.
November 15, 2025 at 2:46 AM
And you know, lest I lose the forest for the trees here: supporting trans and queer people is always the right decision. I'm focusing on the inconsistent, limp response from leadership specifically BECAUSE in this case, this was the route that gravity should have taken. It was the easy choice. Gods.
November 15, 2025 at 2:41 AM
Like don't get me wrong, I don't like that flavor of "Well our policy says..." cowardly shilling, but I'm just aghast that the IFPA seems to have done the extra work of pulling the shotgun out of the safe and aiming it at their feet here.

Like WTF. This is a categorical management failure.
November 15, 2025 at 2:36 AM
Even if you're a Both Sides shill like whomst spewed drivel about "Far righters and leftists play together here" seems to, you have cover FROM YOUR POLICY.

Being a coward using policy as a shield would have worked!

Why are y'all Doing The Hard Thing when it's blowing your foot off? This was easy!
November 15, 2025 at 2:35 AM
It's ridiculous. This is the most simple rote no-brainer thing ever. Even if you wanted to be a shitty Both Sides person, you have air cover from your own policies. There is ZERO reason, valid or shitty, to not just follow your policy here.

It's the biggest unforced error I've ever seen.

I'm very bad at fixing my tense when I have to edit to get in bsky's ridiculous character limit... I miss my 5000 character limit every time I post here (:
November 14, 2025 at 2:45 AM
Not only that, the correct answer was proposed by the board of people collected to advise on these matters, and was ignored by leadership.

That's the "rot" part to me.
November 14, 2025 at 2:37 AM
Banning future sanctioned events at the venue shows at minimum the people making this decision are focused on punitive optics and not making right on what happened.

People left without scoring over this. IFPA's own rules say if this happens the event is invalid. The correct answer is obvious.

I had this problem when I was the DMCA agent for a hosting company, before slop. I imagine it's 100x worse with slop.

We'd get incoherent BS like "There is a violation on <domain>" and when we'd say "No, you need to be specific where and what the violation is", get back threats of legal escalation.

I get the feeling Doors is one of the good ones, just by looking at vibes quickly when that dropped. Yeah. Appreciate the hell out of that. The Hachiemon run is my baby and I'd be massively sad if I didn't get some nod for it.
November 10, 2025 at 11:27 PM
I rolled out of bed and wrote this before I was awake and you can tell because I forget what tense I'm talking in and what clause I'm in like 8 times in one post, hah.
