What do I know about anything? I am still mad about the Punic Wars.
A months ago I read Africa Is Not A Country and it is beautiful and uplifting. It gave me insight on many places that it is often early to gloss over

It made me want to learn more more about how the countries there have been screwed over. I read White Malice and it was so well done... 1/2

I have been slowly making my way through these over the last few weeks. The story is glorious and so complex, with a protagonist who is driven by rage but ends up becoming part of a way bigger picture. So so good.

(PS the blurb says it is like Gladiator. It's more Carthage than Rome)

Reminiscing about how I got a little 6lb rescue wanting a 40 lb dog and instead got this long legged 63 lb dog (who I love dearly).

Weekend book pile. #booksky

This week was progress not finishing.

Royal Assassin - Fitz continues to always make the wrong moves and the villain is just awful and evil.

People's history of the United States - I appreciate all the examples of how we put $$ first in the US

What I actually read this weekend.

Finished Frankenstein. Everyone should read it. Especially the 'academic dude' who insisted that there was a heavy Oedipal thread in this book. Get therapy and then reread.

I read that. It's very problematic, but that is a broad mischaracterization from a national figure. She deleted it so she must be proud.

Weekend book stack (at this point it is just hope, these are some thickies):

Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb - this is a delight. Political intrigue and machinations (this is not for people who love battle scenes). Enjoying Farseer so far

Some people decided to do their own research so I have to do actual research to see if I still have antibodies to the diseases they are so willing to make their children suffer through.

Mary Shelly wrote this gothic emo masterpiece at 19. It still is so much more than a big monster story and it stands the test of time.

All hail the Queen.

Weekend (and beyond) reading pile:

I'm doing this (yay): Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb

I'm doing this (sigh): People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn

I love Madeline Miller's wiring so I need to read Circe!

All hail the Queen. Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.

An amazing book, a quick read, but so much in such a short time. It's an Uban Fairy Tale and it is magnificent.
