seeing people redo introductions so here’s mine!

I’m Luke! I’m a Marine Biology (BS) major in SE Alaska. I’ve spent my few years as an undergrad working w/my mentor on humpback & killer whale research. Besides uni, I enjoy illustrating marine mammals & I hope to study them in grad school! 🐋💫

What to do when you are engulfed in flames. It sure sucks! 🧪 🩺 But, the stellar writers at @nature.com have compiled the help available.
This piece was a wild ride with reporter @virginiagewin.bsky.social b/c of the chaos that is happening right now with US scientists' federal grants. It's terminated, it's reinstated, it's frozen...

Tips, advice & solidarity from researchers navigating it 👇🏻

Big news!

Our latest paper, “Manufacture and use of allogrooming tools by wild killer whales” has been published in “Current Biology”.

This is the first known evidence of a marine mammal making tools out of objects in their environment.

Next up for Minke May: Where do we see minkes in the Salish Sea?

A 2024 study compiled sightings from 1976-2019 to show minkes are often spotted near shallow banks. These banks promote upwelling, bringing nutrient-rich water to the surface.
