I stand corrected. The Fairness Doctrine had significant weaknesses and may not have influenced old-school reporters like Walter Cronkite as much as I imagined. Maybe we can kill two birds with one stone then by holding those purporting to provide "news" to a new, stronger Fairness standard.

Grrr, Reaganlibrary.gov . I always forget that extra "a".

Did I have a typo? The Doctrine, at least according to Regan's own Reganlibrary.gov, was ment to prevent "biased agenda" by requiring networks to "devote time to contrasting views on issues of public importance."

Funny how Republican's call for "smaller government" always means fewer protections and less oversight against corporate abuse.

Love this. America's inablity to think critically is the root cause of our current problems. For better or worse, our ability to make informed decisions is reliant on The Media. The FCC Fairness Doctrine used to ensure this was trustworthy, but was discontinued by Republicans in 1987.

<sigh> Remember when a scandal used to actually have repercussions? Yeah, neither do I.

Eh...okay Trump is a creep, criminal, and unrepentant sex offender. BUT, be careful assuming photos of someone cuddling with their daughter is somehow "disgusting" as if proof of wrong-doing. He might have trafficked his daughter with Epstein, or he could just really adore and be proud of her.

I mean, I agree but I'd call her more of a mail order bride. Or perhaps mail order "bribe" would be more appropriate considering how connected Trump has been to the Russian mob and Kremlin.

In Rachel's 10 Nov episode, by contrast, you can't get 10 min in without her citing specific actions, numbers, events, and quotes that can all be verified. While Conservative shows seem to be flooded with sophomoric half-truths and spin, I haven't found the same to be true of Rachel's show.

For example, in the current show, host Peter Schweizer states that California has piled on environmental regulations on housing to keep people renting. A quick Google of environmental requirements shows this is for new housing/major reno and makes homes more efficient/cheaper to own.

Spin, when repeated enough times, works. People will nod their heads. The crap will continue. Wanna stop it? Maybe stop focusing so much on the deceptive message and start fighting the army of deceptive messengers.

As a Christian Democrat who literally just came from a timely sermon on Matthew chapter 7, that right there is the kind of energetic push-back we need against Christofascists who socially signal each other by wearing crosses and holding up Bibles while ignoring little details like The Golden Rule.

For several years Republicans have shown how laughably bad and wasteful their law suits are. It seems that having actual proof is something Republicans are not very good at. Too bad that overwhelming proof is ultimately ignored when they're being sued in return.

Congratulations. Now go turn words into actions.

There are certainly individual crimes and abuse of trust. But that's short-term thinking. Where are the laws and oversight agencies that would proactively prevent? Every damn time we hear about a flaw in our system, instead of Congress taking action to fix it, they instead take note to exploit it!

This is what happens when congress confirms the appointment of the America First Policy Institute to be in charge of critical positions like the US Attorney General and the head of the USDA. Tbh, I don't understand why so many positions like these are political. IMHO they should all be merit based.
