But they also said that Trump is facing far, far more public opposition today than the government ever saw during the McCarthy era. American civil society is weaker than many had hoped, but it's also stronger than it once was. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Then ask precisely the same average Brit if - with respect to healthcare - they would like to trade places with their American counterpart.

I agree that he could have made a point that would have been a good rebuttal if I had made a completely different point.

The context is people who are about to be priced out of the insurance market altogether.

The context is people who are about to be priced entirely out of health insurance by the elimination of subsidies.
The procedure is prohibitively expensive for many of those who will be newly uninsured.

Exactly. Why don't the people who are now going to be priced out of health insurance entirely not simply barter for surgeries with their H&M blouses?

This is the part Stancil is missing IMO.
It remains bizarre that even with such unimaginable riches the baseline healthcare experience is one of extreme anxiety and expense that just does not exist in much poorer peer democracies, and people can sense that.

The way to square this circle is to look at Median Per-Cap income relative to Median Per-Cap GDP.
Yes, real incomes have risen, but its *vastly* outstripped by GDP growth.
So people (correctly) sense immense new wealth that could cover basic needs that is instead congealing as generational wealth

"And they don't tell you about that test it does get harder, and they do ask about time, the clock with the numbers. And the numbers I made were beautiful, better than any perhaps in history, and certainly under Biden, and the Doctors said "yes sir, those are numbers" and started scribbling notes"

Yeah great thing about that is that it becomes fertile ground for more corruption.
Nevertheless, it will be obliged to them. And the smart ones have been preparing for that (with a paper trail) from the beginning.

150 million taxpayers, so more like $300 billion.
They've collected ~$190 billion in revenues, but most of that is due to be refunded to importers when SCOTUS throws out IEEPA

Housing is complicated, but healthcare seems hard to defend given all the peer nations we can compare to. Much poorer countries dont tolerate the anxiety and expense we inflict on a huge chunk of the population.
All this wealth-and no way to get a baseline healthcare experience on par with belgium?
