Added "locked boxes" that gate the progress of purchasing more plants behind progress milestones. This should hopefully give players something to look forward to as they continue to make progress in the game. #indiedev #pico8 #gamdev

Super simple, but I added some basic tutorial screens through dialogs that appear the first time a player enters a new part of the game. It helps give guidance on what the player should do, while also dropping some sweet sweet story flavor.

I can but dream to aspire to such poignant video game script writing

Made a new menu that is a slight improvement over just simple floating text. I wish it was more readable, but I think the slight nudge over gives the selected item better visibility, and the overall design is more inline with the rest of the game. #pico8 #indiedev #gamedev

Made a little journal screen where players can learn more about the potions they brew. The idea is to hide further clues on how to make the potions in the journal entries, so they'll get an idea of what other types of plants can be used to make each potion. #pico8 #gamedev #indiedev

Some long overdue visual improvements to the actual, physical alchemy bench. It's a bit of a different take for how alchemy benches usually look, but I wanted to focus on the visual aspects of the ingredients, whereas too many games grind them into visually unrecognizable powders. #gamedev #pico8

I'm still working on my plant game! In this dev update, I've put together the first version of the screen where the player can pot and grow certain plants they want more of.

As the player learns more about the world, it will become evident they will need to focus on certain plants #gamedev #pico8

Just finished my playthrough of Tunic. It's a masterpiece of game and world design. Secrets layered within secrets, all laid at your feet throughout your entire journey without you even realizing. The level of care and craft that went into this game is a level unlike anything I've ever played. 10/10

My potion mixing game now has a relatively clean UI behind it now! The tray really makes it feel like you're pulling ingredients out of a drawer, and the heads-up display gives the alchemist info about their ingredients. Now I just need to work on element positioning 😅 #pico8 #indiedev #gamedev

Messing around with a new potion-mixing game idea I've had. Doing text in Pico-8 is rough, but it's getting me to think about the things I take for granted in web design, and how I'd implement them from scratch if I had to. #Pico8 #indiedev

This is the first particle emitter I've ever made. It's not perfect, but it feels organic and alive. #indiedev #pico8

You can now toggle switches in my cat game! Switches toggle electrical wires, which simultaneously power devices, but also can harm the player. #pico8 #indiegamedev #gamedev

Just started learning game dev, so here's a clip from my first short game. It's a platformer about being an asshole cat. #pico8 #caturday

This is Zinga. She's nearly 12 but she still gets some pretty serious zoomies.
