I can’t remember if the school’s Alumni Diversity Council was created in the wake of this happening or if I was already on it but I can tell you this was a frequent topic of discussion and we made some pretty specific demands and basically got a proverbial pat on the head from school leadership.

Journalists used to do this (still do this!) with pulling singular tweets. It’s like many a college essay written and then backfilled with “sources” that confirm what the author already knew or only wanted to talk about.

what I find interesting too is that when this draft bill was put out for consultation, it contained a clause indicating it requires a special majority to be passed (agla.gov.tt/wp-content/u...), but when it was introduced in Parliament that clause was removed (printery.gov.tt/e-gazette/20...)!

It still has to be debated in the Senate, hopefully there’ll be some more examination there. (Bringing ‘stand-your-ground’ laws were a key facet of this administration’s manifesto.)
