I still enjoyed the article you shared, though!

The former! I’m writing about medieval Jewish family law and I’m interested in if/how they responded to Islamic family law both in legal texts and in practice. Given how important milk kinship rules are to medieval muslims, I’m a little surprised that I can’t find any Jewish mention of it.

I looked at the bio of the person i quote tweeted (skeeted?) and she and my old prof MUST know each other. I think they should fight. I would watch that.

Plenty of ancient art was gaudy as hell. The issue is that this exhibit does not fix fundamental problems with museum display and I have met many people who think if you just paint a plaster cast with a bunch of base layers of color then you’re capturing the “authentic” look of an ancient statue.

She was SO upset by how ugly the ‘bronzes’ were. It was hilarious. I understand the purpose of this but it just does not work for me. Much prefer side-by-sides with the real statues or digital reconstructions (see: Acropolis Museum). And at least acknowledge that this is not “how it would’ve looked”

Reading articles you found via google and copying an ai generated answer to a search query are two very different things.

It could very well be something like that — they terminated linguistics research grants that mentioned “grammatical gender” because the AI flagged the word “gender.”

I’ve read a bit about disability in the medieval middle east and I don’t recall guide dogs being mentioned, but there may also be sources there that I’m not remembering. Either way, it was definitely a thing in Europe!

There are a fair number of medieval references to guide dogs for the blind! This post has some good examples and further references that might be worth a look if your student is interested in pre-modern history.

Guide Dogs in Medieval Art and Writing
Were there guide dogs in medieval Europe? And what is the earliest picture of a guide dog? In keeping with a growing (and important) interest in the history of disability, the goal of this post is …

This is a real internet history problem. Most news links go dead after a few years and the only way to access them is if they’re archived

That’s nonsensical. Antisemitism is racism, so does that necessitate Jews all being the same“race”? Race is a construct!! It’s not real and can vary depending on context!! Xenophobia is hatred of foreigners and can also be racist! It usually is!

Nationalities are very often racialized. Race is constructed, not a predetermined fact. There is no such thing as a “real” race and any ethnic, religious, national distinctions, etc. can be racially constructed.
