I'm not sure of the recounting you watched or read, but the plot serves the world and gameplay really well. I don't know. I usually trust Steam reviews and they're Overwhelmingly positive which is almost impossible to achieve these days.

It could be because less people are buying hard copies and more are buying ebooks. More demand for ebooks so they raise the price.
