Bailey is right to break the silence to call out Brexit damage. The Treasury impact assessments from 2019 weren’t wrong (and said a trade deal with Trump would be a rounding error). A ‘relationship reset’ with the EU isn’t enough if we want growth and security. #Rejoin
The Trump Doctrine:

1. America First - ex the 50%+ who vote DEM or Trump look different

2. Hard right friends and autocrats Second - Russia, Argentina, Hungary, China, North Korea, Israel current regime

3. Democracies and allies Third - NATO, Canada, EU, UK, Switzerland, Denmark, South Africa!

Putin will be laughing his head off. NATO includes non-aligned Turkey. Trump has no intention of sanctioning Russia and has found a formulation to point the finger elsewhere. Despicable.

The US president has repeatedly threatened tougher measures against Moscow, but has so far failed to take action.

BBC News platforms a climate sceptic on Radio 4 World at One to back up Reform’s questionable view that fossil fuels are cheaper than renewables. The fact she also disputes global warming should be mentioned as essential context. www.desmog.com/2023/06/22/c...

BBC news seems to have adopted what I presume is the government’s distinction between those crossing in small boats and ‘genuine asylum seekers’. They should reconsider, not least given the proportion of the latter who have their asylum claims approved.

This is deeply worrying.
I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

This is spot on. Farage goes from strength to strength because his opponents think their best line of attack is to wear his clothes. 🤦
It's striking that the one person who's taken no political damage from Brexit is the person who did most to bring it about.

That's partly because Lab remains afraid to talk honestly about the impact of Brexit.

So long as that continues, they'll take the heat for the consequences of Farage's project
Neither Labour nor the Conservatives have made Farage bear any of the political costs of Brexit that they themselves have endured in terms of intra-party divisions and wider public discontent.

Brexit a 'disaster' that 'ruined the country' - referendum 'should be repeated'
On the ninth anniversary of the day the UK voted to leave the EU, we asked readers to have their say on whether Brexit has been a success - and Mirror readers had a lot to say on the matter.

He means it, on a legal-constitutional analysis of his actions. He really believes all power flows from him.

Is the AUKUS submarine review linked to the consequences America threatened when Britain, Australia and others announced sanctions on extremist Israeli cabinet members? Either way, Trump’s talk of a “kill switch” on planes provided to allies would make me think twice about ordering subs.
