Cale is always a cool customer, but when you move to NY to play 18-hour songs with LaMonte Young then launch the slow-morion Big Bang in an unheated flat on Ludlow St, I imagine it’s a tickle 60 yrs later to wind up next to a lovely pop star who worships you

(also provided unasked-for Top 5s of Instrumental Tracks and Last 5 Years cause I refuse to be pigeonholed, unless that pigeonhole is "thinks too much about music")

Haha no way - new work team / boss (good folk!) asked me what my Top 5 Tracks (ever!) were, and Les Fleurs was a late swap in for Madonna's Cherish (decided specifying "6min version please" was too wanky a start to our working relationship) :

Would love to read it. I properly got into Select mid 1995, then NME early 96, but I'd guess a lot of the good Q writers might have moved on by that stage.

Nope can't remember that (well I barely looked at Q until 1995 so that doesn't help!), but yes that sounds good, assuming it wasn't too Ironic Review 😊

Oh that's not a bad shout! I have/had the book but it might be on the Kindle. Worth a look!

I thought it might have been in his very thoughtful Billy Connolly / Ken B1gley article from 2004, but had a quick look and sadly not. Ah well, was fun to reread anyway!

If the Q list was given a full issue, with each album awarded a full page review detailing why the writer deemed it so bad, then I'd love to read it. If it's just "lol Milli Vanilli / lol imagine the Spice Girls going solo, how dare they" tedium then I've got paint I can watch dry instead

Yeah the 2 albums that are "must haves" on my phone/mp3 player etc for the last 20yrs have been Astral Weeks and Fun House, and even I'm bored at how safe and canon those picks are (looks like *somebody*'s read the Lester Bangs best-of!).

Also, I refuse to believe that professional music journalists were sitting at their desks in early 2006, knuckles whitening in their clenched fists, and furiously hissing "ggrrrrrr I *HATE* those William Shatner and Milli Vanilli albums, it's about time they were taken down a peg or two"

Really want to hear Lauryn's 'MTV Unpugged 2.0' though. "It's a real dog of an album!", etc.

Thank you - sadly not but that's a good article too!

My one definitely had the thread of "once the comedic muse had spoken to him he was compelled to say it, or else hang up his mic and never perform again as an artistically compromised coward". It's stuck with me for years if not decades ♥️

Sure, these are the pills, which only work about 25% of the time.

Also adding the restored caption that goes with the night shot, just to give an example of the research I’m protecting by changing it.

I then save the pills into a folder so that I can cut & paste the old captions back in.

For the past six weeks, an AI Facebook account has been pulling my history posts on Instagram and slopping out new captions, so I’ve been feeding it poison pills and its followers are having meltdowns in the comments. It’s been pretty spectacular.
