Made it to the train station and will hop on shortly. Please enjoy this enormous heap of dirt next to a freeway overpass, and this excellent slug.

Good morning from the trail. Cold and dewy in the morning, now quite warm. I'm taking a detour to catch the trail at Selpin, rather than double back 8km just to hike down a road. Still about 30km today, so quite a long day. Off we go.

On the left: a pleasant woodland trail. On the right: the barren paved road the E10 wants me to use. They arrive at the same place. I honestly don't understand the trail routing sometimes.

Good morning from Tribsees, where I'm packed up and ready to head out. Today's a bit longer than yesterday, but I have all day. Hopefully a bit more wilderness zoday. We'll see.

Time for bed. Please enjoy this sign for the restroom, with a frog.

… and I've arrived. That day was way longer than it needed to be, and more stressful. I also forgot my magnesium fizzy tablets, so my muscles are going to hurt. But the first day is in the bag. Now I just need to set up, eat, wash up, and crash.

Closer …

Tribsees, my destination. So close, still so far. Almost done for the day.

Quick stop to eat a bit and shed my jacket. The farm road turned into a nice forest road. It looks like I can cut across the fields in a bit and catch the E10 not far from here.

Turns out the bus wasn't running, so either I add two hours to walk to Franzburg or take the pilgrimage trail directly. I opted for the latter; greetings from this farm road.

Greetings from the village of Grimmen, where I await the bus. Lightly foggy and quite chilly; I'm glad I packed my warmer puff jacket.

Scene from the train. Still a couple hours to go.
April 11, 2025 at 6:37 AM
Good morning from the rail stop. Earlier connection was cancelled, so I'm heading out a bit later. Three hours by train to where I left off in February, then 23km to the campsite. Updates to follow.

Adventures in Nature: my partner dragged me into the bathroom to point at this spider, who has set up a web where the radiator's pipes pass under the bathtub. "She has a cozy house under there where she can stay safe and warm!" my partner said. She (the spider) apparently gets enough to eat.

A couple photos from my hike last week from Stralsund to Franzburg. Coming out of the rail yards near Berlin Gesundbrunnen, a view of hazy fields from the train, the moon from my campsite, and the marshlands the next morning.
February 22, 2025 at 6:54 PM
I probably should have mentioned that the departure from Stralsund on the E10 takes me past the Störtebeker brewery on the outskirts of town. They make pretty decent beer.
February 14, 2025 at 8:21 AM
This is not where a train belongs.
February 13, 2025 at 7:18 PM
The air is also getting steadily worse, turning into a yellowish haze and snowing. The bluish picture on the right was 08:30; the yellowish one on the left an hour later.
February 13, 2025 at 8:39 AM
That said, the moon is very pretty.

Well, I made it to my overnight, but after sundown and it's terribly cold. I can't use my water filter for fear of the membrane freezing, which means trail mix for dinner.
I'm not sure I can continue if it's going to be even colder over the weekend. I might need to bail at the next rail stop.
February 12, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Made it to the trail and am now departing Stralsund. Yikes us it cold. Gonna be a rough one.
February 12, 2025 at 11:32 AM
It's slightly foggy as we head north.
February 12, 2025 at 8:43 AM
Turning north out of Berlin Gesundbrunnen. It's not the most scenic, but I like all the rail infrastructure.

Here are some more pictures of mushrooms from my hike along the Forststeig last month. I *think* the yellow one won't kill you, but the bright red ones are the famous A. muscaria, which I'm told you *can* eat, "once."

Some notable mushrooms from this day of hiking. Some of them, I am told, are edible; but I was too scared to try any of them.
