There is one simple rule that would get rid of literally 95% of the disinformation and Nazi shit on here: every time you see an X screenshot in your feed, block the account that posted it.

First I add the screenshotter to my X promoters list and also usually block them, but yes.

If you see a screenshot from X on here and you’re thinking of reposting it but you don’t recognize the account, here’s some advice: don’t, because there’s a very good chance it’s a fucking Nazi.

Agreed! Bluesky moderation is bad! More transparency would be good! This has nothing to do with the original post, though.

Just to take one of many examples, the impact of X withholding accounts of prominent critics of Modi at the request of the Indian government clearly outweighs every moderation decision Bluesky has ever made. The scales are completely different.

Not sure what your point is! I’m definitely not defending Bluesky, just pointing out that it’s not really helpful to say blatantly untrue things in response.

Clearly not any of the people whose job it is to enforce it.

At least it was a gesture, though, and it’s kind of disturbing that these companies have realized that they don’t even need to bother themselves with the gestures now.

I can say from experience that this iteration of the Ads Transparency Center was trash even when it was functioning, and Thierry Breton agrees:
Commission sends preliminary findings to X for breach of the Digital Services Act
Today, the Commission has informed X of its preliminary view that it is in breach of the Digital Services Act (DSA) in areas linked to dark patterns, advertising transparency and data access for resea...

The current (now quietly broken) version of the Ads Transparency Center was launched in 2023 in order to comply with the EU’s Digital Services Act, which is something these American platforms have apparently decided they don’t have to worry about any longer.

Twitter has launched and then killed an “Ads Transparency Center” before, but at least for the last one they updated an old blog post to say it was dead:
Providing more transparency around advertising on Twitter
Today we’re pleased to share the second part of our efforts, the Ads Transparency Center, which allows anyone across the globe to view ads that have been served on Twitter.

Yes, each subscription-approved account sets their own rate. I don’t have an estimate for the total amount handy at the moment, but I do have the prices, so it wouldn’t be hard to compute (with the qualification that there are probably smaller accounts I’m not tracking, etc.).

It’s about a tenth of that (54k * 4 * 12 months), but it’s still a good question.

Here’s the most recent data I have. In most cases the observation dates here are from the last week. It cuts off at <10 subscribers, but I’m happy to share the full list (9,915 with at least one subscriber).
