Over two decades since originally appearing, Ninja Kong and Ghastly King from Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat return (kinda)!
Ghastly King's design still doesn't *totally* do it for me, but Ninja Kong? Danggg, they sauced him *up!* This new model for him looks terrific. Would the other ones be similar?👀

Damnnn they gave Lord Fredrik some *sauce* in 2025?! Listen, I'm a Returns and Tropical Freeze glazer, but even I can't say I "love" either villain faction. (I prefer Tiki Tong to Lord Fredrik, but prefer the Snowmad faction over the Tiki Tak Tribe.) But just this little snippet of Fredrik... damn🥶🥹

I think DK was a home-run, but Diddy and Dixie need a little more getting used to. I actually think Dixie looks great, but Diddy is the biggest change. I think, when they're in main playable roles again, their models will be refined further!

*And* the design also works because it wasn't just Nintendo "sanding off edges" to make DK cynically more "marketable and cutesy." In art, DK can still drop his brow and be mad, but now his default just makes him look a lot less "annoyed" (?) and kids/newer players will be more into DK, I feel!

...the more I see of this DK's new look, the more and more I think this update was a necessary *and* great change. I know some will disagree, and that's fine, but I just think this design will go a long way in making DK *himself* more approachable and lovable. That brow being altered does *a lot!*

The next Emerald Rush statues are Ninja Kong and Ghastly King from Jungle Beat! As someone with zero connection to that game, this makes me happy. Rare weren't the only ones who made DK games (obvi). And, speaking as the Retro Studios fan, neither were they! EPD 8's first game *was* Jungle Beat ...

Starting with Layer 1200 (not called "sublayers"), the game went up a notch for me. The rest was good, for sure, but everything starting there onwards (story beats, environments, gameplay, etc.) just floored me. Layer 1300 really caught me off-guard in such a great way. It's absolute cinema, Hyle.

If DK gets added to this, I think more people will realize DK made it beyond Bananza! Of course, DK and the co-owned series have a heavy presence on the Nintendo Museum banner, indicating their importance, but these stores are still important as more of them can be spread around.

If DK gets added to this, I think more people will realize DK made it beyond Bananza! Of course, DK and the co-owned series have a heavy presence on the Nintendo Museum banner, indicating their importance, but these stores are still important as more of them can be spread around.

Again, I could totally see a scenario where Bananza comes out, Nintendo finally can make some merch centered around a bonafide, internal EPD DK project (that will actually sell a lot) and expand DK to have its own section. (Will Metroid have the same after Prime 4? That is more uncertain...) (7/8)

Precedent exists for this! When these stores were first opening, Pikmin were not in this key art, nor did they have a section denoted by a statue. They were on the expanded banner, but after Pikmin 4, they were put on the main banner and got a statue. (Plus, Pikmin is Miyamoto's *other* baby.) (6/8)
