For the avoidance of doubt, a building is not human and therefore, does not have feelings to hurt.

7/7 We remain resilient. We remain united. Trans people belong in Brighton. Transphobic hate is not welcome here.

6/7 We’re not alone. We stand with brave cis women who reject transphobia. Misogyny is real and escalating. The “gender critical” agenda will only harm women by policing gender expression.

5/7 We’re also disappointed that Brighton & Hove City Council promised to fly the trans flag over both town halls this weekend in solidarity, then backed out, citing Black History Month. As if intersectionality doesn’t exist. Once again, our community is pushed aside by institutions.

4/7 We are deeply concerned about the risk of a retaliatory attack on the Trans Pride Centre and other community spaces. We urge everyone to stay alert, look after one another, and move safely.

3/7 We’re already seeing trans-exclusionary activists weaponise this moment to portray themselves as victims while they platform hate. They drape themselves in suffragette colours, celebrating a movement built on militant direct action, yet condemn trans people for refusing to quietly accept abuse.

2/7 However we will not denounce members of our wider community for expressing anger born of marginalisation. For years, trans people in Brighton have been dismissed by the Council, attacked in the media, harassed in our streets and excluded from public life. Anger is a natural response to injustice

When the political climate improves, supportive parties may be welcome again, but this year, we are drawing a necessary boundary.

Thank you for your understanding, and for respecting this decision made in solidarity by Trans Prides across the UK.

We recognise the solidarity shown by trans, non-binary, and allied politicians. Your support matters. But we ask that you attend Trans Pride as individuals not as party representatives. Walk with us, not behind party banners.

Pride has always been a protest. It is a space for the LGBTQIA+ community to resist oppression, celebrate our resilience, and support those who are most under threat. This year, that means prioritising the safety and autonomy of our trans, non-binary and intersex siblings above all else.
