Palestine is not a symbol. Not a metaphor. Not a trending topic. It is a land with a people who sing, grieve, love, and fight for a future they are told they do not deserve. And yet, they exist. And yet, they resist. And yet, they will win.

Our paper is out in JoSTrans! Co-authored with Guanpeng, a xiangsheng performer in North America, it explores how xiangsheng grows as translation against political correctness in various political environments while still connected to its roots. Grateful to Lisa, David, Sarah, and all interviewees!

I did my PhD at Cardiff’s School of Modern Languages. It’s full of clever, committed people producing wonderful research. It runs a terrific MFL outreach programme. It’s a friendly & inclusive space for students. It’s also currently the only place I get to teach.
